You may also find useful the navy's navigation guide. This link is to the overview of the North Atlantic, with reference to sub-sections for details. The information is quiet extensive once you get near shore, but there may be other good info for you.
I liked the links. A lot of good info. Thanks

Ok thanks, but I think the question was marked for Brazil not foolish sailor. The way I approach these forums is if I want info, I get it where I can get it. If Brazil chooses not to respond so be it. It's up to him to decide that not you. So butt out.

It's called high jacking a thread and is not considered nice and we try and play nice on CF. So why not be nice and follow foolishsailor's advice.

Gary,

When you have a question that's not closely related to the current thread, it's almost always in your best interest to start a new thread. You'll get a lot more input that way, and it will be more to the point you're interested in. If you want to get some off-topic advice from the OP of a thread, it's best to PM the OP rather than hijacking the OP's thread. Not a hard-and-fast rule or anything, just common sense and common courtesy.

Brazil

I suspect that where you intend turning south is very close to the worst of the Azores high, which means lots & lots of motoring. Would it not be better to head further east, perhaps stopping in Cap Verde for a cup of coffee/a cold beer?
