Re: White-collar work from an old boat

Yeah, the dilemma I had at one home was that the first bit of the ride to work was downhill so on cold mornings I was an ice cube by the time I got to the bike path at the bottom. And then there was the dread of the climb hanging over me for the whole trip home. Thankfully the bits of Adelaide I will be cycling are all very flat.

If you can find a gym close to the office with private lockers & laundry service e.g. Lifetime or Equinox.

A very clever idea, and frankly I could do with some gym time if I am honest with myself.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. So long as you are clean, your clothes are presentable and you do not have BO or bad breath you will be fine.
We taught for years, some of it from the boat. I showered at school in the sports dept.
In the staffroom, some of the women will wear perfume which will cover any of your marine mustiness.
In the classroom, there will be all kinds of smells, many of them unmentionable!
Your faint odour will fade into insignificance.

Regards,
Richard.

Richard, you have reminded me that I have been warned to dread year 7s on hot afternoons. :^(

GILow:

If you recognize the smell, you know what it is and you understand, and it's okay.

If you don't recognize the smell, you don't know what it is, and it's still okay.

Don't sweat (oops, sorry!) the small stuff.

[You can also tell them to shower before your class. You're the maths teacher god.]

Australian Tea Tree Oil is great for mildew and mold control and the smells they generate. Find it almost everywhere now. Buy several of the small tubs of the stuff and scatter them about below, especially in areas with less that ideal ventilation. Its always worked for me here in the humid Southeast.

Ann, I fear you have an overly optimistic assessment of my likely influence on students.

The schools of today are gender neutral - your answer is above - good call Richard!
