Re: What is the more useless thing that all boaters have?

I like to fly my U.S. Flag as I sail back to mainland.

Sexant, I have one and know how to use it. But in a jam, I would rather grab my GPS and batteries.

I do hope you all realize that a bell is compulsory for any boat 12m+ in length. see Colreg 33

Well, I'm still carrying my fog horn around but suspect I should continue to do so. I haven't used it in 21 years, other than to blow the spiders & dust out of it.

Country flags are part of courtesy. In a pinch you could make an emergency bandage out of one.

A.

At some point, the flags could be used to make cool slacks or a dinner jacket.

I agree, had many ref books and they did nothing but get moldy! Shed that weight.
Storm Trysail.
Too many pots and pans etc. You only have 3 burners and often pans wont fit on all three!
Too many kitchen devices in general... you can always find a way!
Yeah, the bell is useless.

I think flags should be flown. I've heard some Customs and Immig. people expect to see them.
Def keep the barometer.... nice to see where it's headed.

PO left a tin of sardines in a galley locker. No date but I guess around 20 years by now. I'm considering preserving them in cast lexan.

We have a remote controlled talking Macaw. Useless but entertaining.

There it is. I've been just waiting to see how long it took for that one to come out

Throw cushions on the bed. Not the pillow but cushions. Wife said they are to look pretty but you go to bed and throw them on the floor. Absolutely no useful purpose. All I can say is next time I'm out I hope they float (or not)

Got those all over the house, beds and couches too. I'm going to try to forego that on a boat, what do you think my chances are?

People shouldn't lecture if they are behind the times:

*Under a recent change, a vessel 12 meters (39.4 ft) to less than 20 meters (65 ft) is no longer required to carry a bell on board.
