Want to be half owner

I am a canadian lookijng to buy a sail boat were I could use it from November to April. Then partner could have it from April to November.
I would prefer that it came north in summer (Great Lakes out of harms way) Nad i don't have a problem with moving it.
Is there anyone out there interested ???
Or do any of you have advice on this???
I am thinking 50 Mono or 40 ft Cat.

All I can say is that you might look at a boat in charter because your preferred time of access is the inverse of the Great Lakes charter seasons.

I'm trying to figure out why anyone would want to split ownership with someone who identifies himself as "Captain."

The right person would have a home in Florida and would want to escape the Florida heat by sailing the Great Lakes in the Summer. Then cruise on down South back to Florida in the Fall. It would get handed off and CaptainO would cruise around Florida and the Bahamas during the winter months, and then take it back up to the Great Lakes in the Spring.

I can see the appeal for someone who still would like to have a life on land, yet would like to get away from it all some of the time.

Having said that, there is a trust aspect to this. I would only want to get into this type of agreement with my Father or sister. Maybe a few of my close friends too.

I have a friend In florida were I can dock the boat.
I have been sailing since a kid. Price range around the 250/300k

Finding someone to not only have enough trust in you to split the cost of a boat AND for them to give you the prime sailing season in the prime location while they get the Great Lakes (nothing wrong with the Great Lakes but there is a reason everyone wants to head to the Carribbean) is going to be tough. A miracle really.

A more realistic and doable option on your budget is to buy a boat and put it in charter with a charter company. Yes, you won't be able to move it to the Great Lakes but that is what insurance is for.

Have to agree with Mimsy. I think it's going to take a great deal of luck to find someone who would want this kind of deal. Good luck to you nonetheless.

It could work out with somebody living in Europe, but will include yearly Atlantic crosings.
The difficult part wouldbe agreeing on terms to ensure parties take responsibility for delivery and maintenance.
But, yes I think it´s doable but somewhat challenging to pull it off once you dig into the legal what ifs.
