Typical Costs to Own a Non Cruising Boat

I am not going cruising anytime soon but may be looking at buying a boat.

Since I am not going cruising, the infinitely valuable "Cruising on $500/month" thread is probably not particularly helpful

In the PNW, what should be a typical monthly budget for boat ownership for a 35'-40' monohull sailboat? I would expect to pay for it outright so there won't be a payment.

What do people actually spend?

I assume you have the following:

Marina:
Insurance:
Fuel:
Some maintenance budget but lets assume the boat is in reasonable shape.
Electricity
What else?

=================

Food and drink are part of the normal costs of life and therefore do not belong in this budget.

What do people actually spend?

San Diego numbers:

Marina: $700
Insurance: $100
Fuel: Depends wildly on usage, but figure $50 if you're active.
Maintenance: $200. Wild guess.
Electricity: liveaboard? we spend anywhere from $0-$30/month depending on solar and whether we're lazy and use the electric heater (via shorepower) instead of the diesel heater.

I should have added that we are not going to live aboard.

Re: typical costs to own a non crusing boat

In the PNW, I'm thinking this would be in the ball park, north of metro Seatle:
Marina: $350
Insurance: I insured my last 32 ft boat through my auto company for $237 per year. Liability only. For yours maybe $400?
Fuel: not worth mentioning for a sailboat.
Some maintenance budget but lets assume the boat is in reasonable shape.: Figure a haul out and bottom paint every 2 years min in the PNW. I dont know the current rates but probably $700 with paint if you do it and quickly. Other things really depend on what goes wrong... and how inventive you are. You might guess $1200 a year total for a miserly owner.
Electricity: as a non liveaboard it might be included in the moorage, or maybe not. $30-$75 for the winter anyway....

What else? (This can be a big one)As a boat owner, you always want more toys for the boat. This is up to you. Can you live with Lat and Lon on the old GPS or do you want a chartplotter? etc.

Probably better to just think of insurance cost in terms of a % of hull value. Probably around 1% in the PNW, but subject to a minimum premium, which varies by company.

Factor in a haulout perhaps once every two years and the inevitable upgrades that you will want to do to the boat.

The wind is free, but the sails aren't. Electronics seem to have a short enough life to count as almost semi-consumable. Running rigging has an intermediate lifespan that partially depends on how exposed it is. If you're not a diver, you might want to pay one to clean the bottom occasionally in between haulouts. Some safety gear has expiration dates and requires replacement (flares) or maintenance (rafts). Rum.
