Trying to Track down a boat. Help?

Hello everyone. I am trying to track down where a boat may be or if it possibly has been sold. Last I new it was up in the North Locks somewhere after it broke down prior to fall coming. The Owner is Allen Fitzsimmons. The boats name is Fitz Fine. Allen has only posted on here once.

Allen past away on Tuesday and we (his daughter and I ) have no paper work as it was all thrown away shortly after he was incarcerated in April of 2011 after everything in his house was tossed because no payments where made do to him being in Jail. Now that he has passed away I am trying to help his daughter recover what ever assets he has left for her.

No one has any idea of where is is. How would I go about locating this boat and seeing if it had been sold. Im thinking it has been as it has been sitting in the harbor/shop for over a year and half with no payments. But still going to try for her.

Please email me with any info you may have at missdaniellerpalmer*at*gmail*dot*com or on facebook http://www.facebook.com/theoriginaltattoogoddess

Thank you!
Danielle

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Danielle.

Sorry to learn that Allen has passed away. Our sympathies to you & his daughter.

Where is the "North Locks"?

That is it correct! Thank you! Do you know how I might be able to find out where it is at?
North Locks I mean Erie Canal area. He was going from Duluth to New York Harbor. I do not remember where he broke down at. But that was his trip.

How soon do people have to transfer ownership?

Re: Trying to Track down a boat. Help?

Welcome, and condolences to Allan's family.
Please keep us informed on the whereabouts and the transfer of ownership. I personally would be interested in transfer as it is a company(inc) boat. Are there other individuals associated or part of the corporation?

If vessel was a a marina, there is a great chance of marina fees also not being paid which would have to be taken care of. Trying calling all the marinas in the area.

Good luck, and if anyone can find it these fine folks on this site can do it, or lead you on the right path.

Unfortunately the website only gives information on who has documented the boat and their mailing address. Only way I know to locate the boat is to call marinas and post on forums like this in case a member happens to see it.

Regarding transfer of ownership, that web site only shows when a boat has the USCG documentation updated but boats do not have to be USCG documented. If their is a new owner that documents the boat with the USCG, with the government budget tight it might be weeks or even months before that web site is updated. Also, a new owner could decide to only do a state registration instead. To find this you have to contact each state individually. Worst case, if the boat is in a boat yard for repairs and not on the water the owner may not register the boat anywhere.

Good luck.

File a lien immediately using the estate as claimant. See a lawyer if necessary.
