A good example of people standing up to a chore, are those keeping the Liberty ship the SS John W Brown alive and steaming.

A fascinating read Cadence. I'd not heard of her until you posted this and so I've gone looking and see an amazing story behind her.

Up until 2009 the MV Doulos had the record for the oldest continuing running passenger ship

We don't know what goes on in other people's lives so we don't know why the bats are allowed to deteriorate.

Do we really want the government telling us what boats we can buy and how to take care of them?

Have you just posted in the correct thread? Because your post makes NO sense to this topic.

A little hard on Mr. Dick aren't you?

"it wouldn't matter if Jesus Christ was on the boat, he wouldn't have been able to do anything."

I'm not sure how he knows that.

On the other hand, why should I have to pay for the damage and clean up of your derilic boat.

Im betting that Jesus Christ would not have headed out to see in an open cattle ship in weather like that in the first place.

And YES, im hard on Mr Dick, because his history is long.. Some people should not own boats

Re: Some People Should Not Be Permitted To Own A Boat

Well, Mr Dick has pleasantly surprised me. He's sold the sunken ship for $1. I just hope the new owner can secure the necessary funding to get it raised.

Re: Some People Should Not Be Permitted To Own A Boat

The title of this post should be stupid people shouldn't own big boats.
I use to own a marine salvage business and the wood schooner doesn't look like a tough problem. Depending on how long in the water and what also is in the water, sinking may not have done major damage. Clean up and getting the vessel back to a proper maintenance level would be expensive.
On the cow story: the animals should have been confined in such a way that a storm wouldn't matter. The captain and mates are at fault.
Several years ago, A Russian air transport was transporting dairy cattle from Washington State to Russia. While over Japanese waters, a cow went crazy and couldn't be contained. As a last resort, a side door was opened and the cow went out at high altitude. As luck would have it, it landed on a Japanese fishing boat, sinking it. It landed the captain in the nut house because the local coast guard didn't believe "a cow falling from the sky" was the cause of the sinking. Later after the plane landed and reported, the captain was freed. International insurance claims would have been interesting to see.
