Slip or Mooring

I think you'd be happier on a slip than mooring. Your shore power charges your batteries which runs your bilge pumps. I assume you leave your bilge pumps on automatic? Some internet based monitoring features like a bilge cam should give you the piece of mind you need.

The down side to relying on insurance is insurance companies are in the business of not paying claims, if they can find a way not to pay they will.

I think you're instincts are good. Keep the slip, drop the management company, get a bilge cam, set your pumps to automatic.

I wish I was paying $300/month for a slip in Phucket rather than $600/month for a slip on frozen old lake Ontario.

Actually, I don't have shore power hook-ups on the boat. It's 12v-only inside, with 2x 250aH house batteries (+1 start battery). I've recently installed two new 250w panels and a massive MPPT charge controller. With the sun in Thailand, even if drained to 80% overnight, the batteries are recharged fully by noon.

And, yeah, the bilge pumps are left on auto.

My thoughts exactly! I have insurance on the boat, but really don't want to think of it as a line of defense when considering slip/management options. Prefer to do everything in my control the right way, and save insurance for when things beyond my control go wrong.

You can pay for my slip if you like. Perhaps doing so will make you feel tropical warm and fuzzy on those cold winter nights!

A slip is safer than a mooring in many ways. Unless you can't afford it, choose the slip.
