Proof of boat ownership

This is driving me nuts - while completing my USCG license renewal, they asked for proof of my boat ownership. I went through all of my papers and could only find (1) the original bill of sale and (2) current copy of USCG documentation. I was expecting to find something like a pink-slip for a car -or- a title for your house.

Is all I have to prove that I own our boat is the bill-of-sale and current USCG documentation form? Am I missing some important paper that I can't find?

Don,

your USCG documentation is your title. While you may be required to also state register your vessel, states are specifically excluded from providing title for documented vessels, as the CoD (certificate of documentation) is proof of ownership. To get your documentation you have to provide some other form of proof (usually a bill of sale), but once documented that is your proof.
