Onwers version and charter catamaran, what's the difference.

Hi.
I'm looking to buy a 40ft lagoon or fountaine pajot around 5 - 10 yrs old.
How can i tell if one has been an ex charter and what are the problems in an ex charter.
Should i expect ex charter to be cheaper in price.
Thanks

Re: Onwers version and charter catamaran, what's the difference.

Charter cats typically have 4 cabins in the 4 corners. An owners version typically has one hull dedicated to the owner with 2 cabins on the other side.

Realistically, I wouldn't count on one being better than the other. Assuming it was in a reputable charter company, it likely got regular maintenance. With an non-charter boat, it's a crapshoot. Might be perfectly maintained...might have had an owner do the bare minimum to keep it afloat. Either way get a survey.

Any luck in finding your boat? I've been looking for a cat in Asia as well but have yet to find one...

From the ones I see though, I think in Asia (at least) there is a trend that charter versions can be sold for higher price, maybe this has to do with resale value, I'm not too sure. Either way, best of luck to you in finding your boat

Dollarside.
I been looking in the Caribbean and find the 3 cabin owners version to be more sought after and expensive. That's lagoon and FP.
I thought buying a ex charter is like an ex taxi. I could turn the 4th cabin into a workshop, i think theres a toilet and shower in that corner on the owners.

Some charter companies have owners versions in their fleet. When I was shopping, owners versions were significantly more expensive than charter versions. Owners versions tend to be more liveable so more in demand outside of the charter market. Most charter boats are all about sleeping space and small private heads for each cabin.
