Who said naming kids is easier? Plthth on that! I only came up with one name and it was for a girl, never mind, the doc was certain we were having a girl. It was a high risk pregnancy so we had a lot of ultra sounds. You guessed it...the little nipper was a boy! The nurses put thumb screws on me and MADE me come up with a name. So nipper became Thelonious (after Thelonious monk) but I was stressed, in pain, and FORCED to name him. Don't blame me if the kids on the play ground teased...

For our boat we kept the old girls name. "Gitana". There are many Gitanas on the seas, but her paint job was too pretty to ruin it with it with the ego choice.

In my marina in West Vancouver I see a boat called "Good-bye Toronto" — couldna ha said it better meself ;-0)!

A friend of mine that I "helped" to teach to sail many years ago bought a Fast Passage 39 straight outta Jespersen's yard. My friend had retired after selling his business in Twanna. He was a church organist, and a good one, so I suggested "Nunc Dimittis" but that didn't find favour. Maybe he didn't take it literally enuff.

Then there are all the names recalling the Glory Days of the RN. All the "-able" names: "Despicable", "Abominable", "Detestable", "Insufferable" and so on. And all the -ous names: "Vainglorious", "Calamitous", "Villainous", "Injudicious" and so on.

Or you can turn all nostalgic and call the vessel after a place or a piece of water you particularly loved as a child, in my case "Fyn" or "Lillebelt", In my beloved's case "Cates Park" or "Deep Cove"

Then there are all the old standbys: "Stella Maris", "Hope", "Two Friends", "Forward", "Trial".

Naming a vessel is only difficult because the candidates are so many :-)

Years ago when the Columbia 26 II and I were both young I taught many a university student the basics in one of them. Loved it! Excellent, excellent first cruising boat, so congratulations on your choice :-)!

There's a local cabin cruiser with lots of fishing pole holders on it named BALDERDASH.

Ours came with "Arcturian", but not wanting to go around wearing a tinfoil hat, we just un-named her.
The original name was Serenity, which was the most common name for years, so it's out.
We're leaning towards PINAO, but Google thinks I MUST mean Piano

so we're still thinking.

Try giving the chore to your kids and grand kids and see what they come up with. You might get some good ideas

In N.A. there are traditional names like SHENANDOAH, TICONDEROGA, TOMAHAWK

plus places of Indian civilization, like "Chippewaqqui " or similar, all nice to me

in contrast,i find current names a Real s**t,.... bluemoon, Grey ghost, Golden something, Wild (who??) , Dream (what?) ARE AWFUL, HILARIOUS, miserabile...

ENOUGH WITH FUNKY COLORs,please!!!!

Name must be short, clear, feminine...

C'EST LA VIE
ROSE SSELAVY
DEANA
GORDIANA

are pleasant too
And any name with BAY is OK
