Navy Nurse Corps

Anyone out there a nurse/doctor/medic in the Navy, either current or recent? I'd like to chat a bit with a few who don't have "recruiter" in their job title to get an idea of what it is really like to join as an officer. That's assuming there is something left of me when I get finished in the spring!!!

Thanks in advance!

My sis is a nurse in the Navy, retiring in about a year. She loved it, pay is above what you'd make in the private sector especially when tax-free allotments are taken into consideration. The last time she stepped foot on a ship was at OCS 19 years ago, so if you're doing it to be underway, your options will be limited- carriers or big-deck amphibious ships are about it I think. Do remember that it is the military, so there is a good chance you could still go to Iraq or Afghanistan. Nurses and Doctors are officers in the Navy. Doctors start out as a higher rank than Nurses. Medics are totally different- they are enlisted, more deployable since they can be on all types of ships, can be attached to Marines, etc. DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you even think about listening to a recruiter. IMO, if you are finishing your degree, there is absolutely NO reason to not sign on as an officer (Nurse if that's your degree). If you are not talking to an officer recruiter, you need ask to speak to one. Good luck!
