I would take you up on it!!! As a female Sailor (the Navy type) I have witnessed several who made money on a 7 month cruise by providing services such as waxing and hair!!! I may have to change my degree plan and become an esthetician.

Re: Make-Money-While-Cruising List

I am a licensed auto mechanic and licensed diesel mechanic. I plan to cruise as long as these old bones will last. I can pick up work as I go repairing engines and the like. I have yet to be at a marina where I haven't had the opportunity to help someone. They have always offered to pay but since I am still working, I usually refuse and settle for a cold drink or Timmies.

You clearly don't speak Canuck! It's a coffee from a chain that bears the name of a dead hockey player, Tim Horton.

That, my American friend, is a Tim Horton's coffee. And pity the poor sailor that has never had one. LOL

Somehow it's not half so romantic when you say it. LOL

You can always tell who loves their double double and who doesn't.

As to the theme of the thread ... how about an onboard Tim's franchise. You'd need good line of floats so people could gather in the traditional "lineup at Tim's" but it wold be a hit with cruising Canadian's (at least the half that can't live without their Timmies).

Re: Make-Money-While-Cruising List

Timmies is a national addiction.

Many of us are certain they must add cocaine or something into the coffee, as there is nothing else like it. Seeing a lineup of 50 cars at the drive-thru at 6:30 in the morning in -35 weather tells it all.

When ordering, many ask for a "double double".

Bonus points for those non-Canadians who know what that is.

For a CBS Good Morning America article, see

Re: Make-Money-While-Cruising List

"licensed diesel mechanic"
In Canada, you need a government license to be a diesel mechanic? I've heard of many certifications, but never a government license--anywhere--to be a mechanic.
At least here in the States, a "license" comes from a government agency. All we've got are privately certified mechanics, and whether that's ASE or "dealer brand"...it still doesn't guarantee any skill level, and you can't put the guys out of work by pulling their "license". Unlike doctors and varying other alleged professionals, who often must be licensed before they can hand a shingle out and work.

Ah, but can you get the companion "Wendy's" operation in the boat?
