As with any advice, mine should be researched. Fortunately, it is possible for people to create a play money account with a free trading platform like Interactive Brokers and get a free trial from MRCI to fiddle with the idea and do their own diligence. The hardest part seems to be figuring out how to use IB, with the rest just following instructions.

The biggest concern I have in recommending this is that a draw down of capital when you first start out could be very discouraging. Over the course of a year, and at least over the course of the last 15 or so I have been doing this, you do extremely well but I wouldn't want someone trying this until they felt comfortable with the process.

And let's face it - if you invented cancer cure in a can, some Internet genius would campaign to discourage people with cancer from availing themselves of it. Just human nature, I suppose, even if a bit pathetic.

Only if it sold on MSNBC on Saturday afternoons for 3 easy risk free payments of $19.95.....Ha ha ha. But we both know a cancer cure in a can would neve get FDA approval...there is just way too much money in the Cancer Treatment Biz to let that happen...but OBamacare will fix that with the death panels right?

Hmmm...There's a difference between informed and opposing points of view and uninformed background noise, but go with what you're comfortable with.

I don't know if it's your little beef with Delfin or what but you are really showing your ignorance here. You obviously have not researched what Delfin is doing. "Get rich by working the market type of scheme"? Go to another thread, please.

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

"You obviously have not researched what Delfin is doing. "
The last good hard objective statistics I saw showed that something like 95% of all stock market investors lost money while 5% made money. Not counting the brokers, who make money every time.

No matter what Delfin is doing, on every trade someone has to lose money in order for someone else to win it. Not "make" it, but simply win it over. And if everyone could simply win it by following a program...than they couldn't make anything at all, because someone still has to lose a buck, for every buck that is won. Well, actually they have to lose more than a buck, because the brokers still have to get paid too.

All "trading" is very much a zero-sum game. The money won, always equals the money lost. The entire system relies on losers in order to make winners. Just like a casino, except, the casino serves better drinks and has prettier hostesses.

Nothing wrong with either one, as long as you feel lucky tonight.

No beef at all with Delfin...I'm sure he's a great guy with a fabulous boat and believe it our not, I'm not even trying to be ass.

Look, this whole thread is a discussion about "how to make money while cruising". People have given opinions to different approaches and others have commented on the pluses or minuses of those different ideas. From where I stand (family in the broker/financial industry) folks who don't have extensive background in the "market" are easily led down the “easy money” path, they risk their nest egg (in this case their Cruising Kitty) and then as Delfin admits himself they can lose their money…and some lose a LOT of money that they had no business even risking in the first place. Cruisers are like folks in retirement who shouldn't be risking principal in my view of the world, and there are plenty of good ways to make money without risking principal or your cruising kitty. For saying such things…I’m now “ignorant”…sorry…don’t buy it. Heck…I’m just giving the same warning Delfin is giving!

The thought of telling someone casting off cruising that they can play the market as a way to fund their cruise to me is crazy…and for saying so now I’m ignorant? No, not ignorant just being realistic. But what do I know anyway...I just started two different businesses from my boat while out cruising and talk to cruisers every day who are both out there and getting ready to head out there…so I guess I really don't have anything to add to a conversation about "making money while cruising"....my apologies for interrupting.

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

OK now you are just dense as you still don't understand why I called you ignorant. You are ignorant to the method Delfin is using. You are lumping it in with what you called a "Get rich by working the market type of scheme", which it is not. Perhaps if you would do just a tiny bit of research from the information Delfin has laid out you could address your issues with it. Or you could come up with some better methods.

It's hard in long threads for people to keep track...but I posted a bunch of my ideas from what I've seen out cruising that works in the early pages of the thread and then faded off once the thread became an investment newsletter.

Yes I totally understand the method he is using and YES I still call it "get rich by working the market scheme". Because someone doesn't like something doesn't mean they don't understand it and to take that approach in life is like President Bush's "You are with us or the Terrorists" talking point.

It's called an opinion...and mine is just as stinky as the next guys...why all the personal attack drama...oh that's right, it's an internet chat room...people like that kinda stuff for some reason.

That statement proves that you don't understand the method. Otherwise you would show specifically what you didn't like about it. Certeza did a good job of that pages back.

You, on the other hand are using bully tactics to stifle any chance for learning more about it.

Please try to be constructive because to some of us this is an important thread.

Saying this is "BS" or a "scheme" is just self serving.

Well, trot 'em back out and let's have a look see. Could be I missed something

Not interested in attacking anyone's character. I'm interested in creating a sustainable cruising lifestyle.

There's about 20 million Hemingway wanna-be's out there with a blog so I'm not sure that's a great idea (nothing spectacular ever happens to me anyway so my blog would be about as dull as dishwater).

I've done IT for a company for about 15 years now and I have to admit, I'm sick of computers in general and clients who are just about as sharp as a beachball ("How do I reboot it?"). Things were much better when we had a DOS prompt and you actually had to know what you were doing before anyone would let you near a computer.

This could start another war on electronics versus manual and that's not what I'm after but you have to admit, I have a job because electronics is the High Priest of false security.

So fixing systems over the internet holds an extremely limited appeal for me.

I have never ran a business and to be honest, I don't see how I could if I was cruising.

Coastal cruising, yes. Middle of the Med when my business in is North Am, not so much. Yes, I know, "the internet is your friend", but when your "friend" bails on you (see my comments above) or simply can't help you, then what?

I know, I'll hire somebody to look after things and if they call me because they don't know what to do, I'll lock up my boat, fly home, straighten the problem out and hire a new manager and then fly back to my boat.

Sorry, but that scenario isn't going to help me sleep at night when I'm in Rome.

What else ya got?

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

I've been trading the MRCI spreads for just over a year now. Started with $20,000 and recently was up $50,000. . . .

But I lacked the self-discipline that Delfin has, entering each spread on the date indicated and exiting likewise, and one of each. I tend to get carried away, picking favorites, doubling or tripling up on some while letting others go untouched. Big mistake.

Here's the point where both Delfin and Certeza can put their arms around each other's shoulders, and say in unison, "Told you so, you idiot!"

I've lost a substantial amount over the last couple of months, all the while watching the MRCI list, if traded as indicated, growing by over $20,000. So my advice is . . . "Don't stray from the path!"

It also makes me think that letting a broker do it for you wouldn't be such a bad idea. They will just do it and not let their fevered heads and hot little hands get the better of them. The small amount of extra you would pay in commissions (maybe $15 per spread instead of $5) would be peanuts compared to the unnecessary losses you can cause for yourself. And you can go off cruising for a year or more and come back to see what you've got.

I'm still in and regaining lost ground, but playing it much more conservatively now.

And I'm still grateful every day to Delfin for telling me about MRCI and spread trading.

So first I'm ignorant...now I'm an internet bully...ha ha ah...for the love of Pete listen to yoruself. You sound like one of the countless fliers my kids bring home from high school after the constant anti-bullying seminars and talks the public schools put on to make sure everyone is a winner, has high selfesteim and no one ever is exposed to something that makes them uncomfortable! If you don't understand my point of view of not liking the approach ot telling Cruisers that they can play the market while out cruising....then Amigo...move on, open a brokerage account and start playing the MRCI Spreads yourself.

Why retype what was already said?

C'mon kids. If you have something to add to how or how not to make money while you cruise, lay it down.

The peeing contests are at the other end of the dock.

Easy...let me explain how it works.

Frist YOU call me Ignorant for not thinking the trading scheme of MRCI is something good for cruisers...how dare I...off with my head....take me to GITMO Immdiately!

Then YOU call me an "internet bully" for daring to say such a thing, that in my opinion it's crazy advice.

I respond to your name calling and YOU are confussed?....

What part of this is a mystery to anyone becasue now I'm confued.

Look...if you want to do MRCI Spread trading...GREAT...do it....enjoy make all the money you can and I love that you are successful at it!

All I'm saying is that for the vast majority of people that try it, they will be crying in their beer after blowing a chunk of their Cruising Kitty. I don't see the controversy in that....but WOW...these days I guess having an opinion and daring to say it is being an Internet Bully.
