Could be a SIM used as a back up solution, in an emergency case ?
If so, good idea.

Hopefully competition will bring prices down, soon.

A good friend of mine cuts hair, and sails the world. We all need a good haircut from time to time.

Yes. A lot of equipment. Of the right sort. And gender.

Unfortunately in that market their has been a race to the bottom. And you need to fill a very specialised niche. Inventively......

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

hahaha, well having specialty equipment could be a niche in itself.

However, you could make videos lots of them. Then you can upload them when you get to outsourced internet or better connections. I have seen videos uploaded with a 4G phone.

Once uploaded to servers, you can have the videos released on a schedule.

I guess I can't match SV Third Day's sister's part time internet results, as I've only averaged just over $1000/wk, but I hope that one day I will be as wise and knowledgeable as Third Day, or even his internet guru sister. Mcbare,

I hope this turns out well for you over the long term as I'm a big advocate of alternative investment. I just wanted to throw a reality check out there for those following this thread and interested in the method you all are touting. My original word of caution was simply that trading this method exactly with $40K cash balance was wreckless advice despite the historical reliability of the system.

Just as a heads up to those following this, here is the last 6 months of hypothetical results if you were to follow that system. Note that this does not include commissions, slippage, or data fees, so actual results would be expected to be slightly more negative.

That's a drop of $36K over a 6 month period. That's a 90% drawdown in the recommended $40K cash account which could not sustain that sort of drop; positions would be almost completely liquidated after falling below maintenance margin requirements. Even if the system rallies back from here, the individual's account would no longer be able to participate fully, which increases concentration risk making it even more dangerous.

I'll take the opportunity to offer my original advice. There are certain aspects of that system with potential, but trading it fully in a $40K account is not prudent.

How can both posters be using the same data.

Can't see how this could possibly be.

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

I trade in the market but I would not recommend that as a way to generate money while cruising. I would say if you've been profitable consistently trading options for many years - throughout many up and down trends (or something to that effect) then yes you may have a reliable source of income- but most people are not in that camp

And you definitely don't want to be trading on margin if you are a novice

The bull market is 6 years in the making

Statistically we have a crash every 7 years...

That doesn't mean it will crash next year- it just means it's not a great time to be entering the market - especially for novices.

I like the idea of graphic design

Or learn SEO
Search engine optimization

And then offer that as a service

You do need steady internet though...

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

I am going to throw something else into the mix. I came across these guys: Weathy Affiliates. They claim to "educate" you one how to set up a internet business and then have you as a source to others and visa versa to grow you niche business (for a fee). Sounds like something that could be done on a boat.
Anyone have any experience with these yahoos?

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

I am sure that graph is correct for what it is portraying, but if you look at the heading it says ' Futures and Spreads Equity Curves'.
Trading straight futures is too dangerous, I just trade spreads. Have made a profit every year for 5 yrs. Last year I made a return of 160% on capital. This year at present is around 20%. Other years between 60 and 70%.
My term deposits in an Australian bank are making me around 3.25% as a comparison.
I don't trade blindly and select my trades carefully.
This is my real world experience over five years and I am not a genius.

Regards,
Richard.

Re: Make Money While Cruising - List

We do Desalination and Waste Water throughout the Caribbean. Specifically SWRO, and MBR plants. I also do PLC programming and solution consulting. Spend some time here on this island, sail to another. Hey we need you to go here. When your done with this plant, can you go there awhile.. Not a bad way to make a living. I like getting paid to sail, spend time on different islands and doing water treatment pays way more here than in the states.

I think this is a great idea. Currently, the only option people have is to take sailing lessons from a school. Most are pricey and come with a certificate.I think the sailors offering the service can expect more from the those that want to try out living aboard. They should share in all the work including cooking, watches, etc. I sail small daysailors on inland lakes and need experience on larger boats, ocean sailing, and offshore sailing. Currently, I am not interested in more certification. I am interested in experience without having to pay a leg and an arm for it. Crewing is not really an option until I have more experience on larger boats.
