A neighbor of mine has taken over 25 years to build a 40' + boat.
It's still not finished, but getting close.
Last summer he put up his new 25 year old mainsail
for the first time.
After a few weeks of it sitting on the boom with no mainsail
cover, I asked him about the mainsail cover.
He said, "I have the sunbrella fabric
, all I have to do is measure, cut and sew it up."
I asked him when would he do that, to which he said, "Oh, I'll probably get around to it in a few months."
When I mentioned that the sail would be damaged by UV and should be covered immediately, he scoffed.
Two days later, it was wrapped up with the blue Sunbrella and tied on with rope
That was over a year ago, and no progress since.
He hasn't even got his primary winches mounted, but at least his 25 year old "new" main isn't getting cooked by UV.
