I've started! Book suggestions!
So I posted a while back about starting out with sailing and took everyone's advice as much as possible.
I joined Blue Circle sailing club who sadly are shutting this year in Kent. They have been amazing with some bits of free tuition but only been out about four times. Apparently I'm quite a natural!
I've read sailing for dummies which is actually quite good. I'm going on holiday Monday and due to where I'm travelling have some layovers etc so need a couple of ideas for more books to read on the plane. Looking at other posts I've got coming Sailing Alone around the world by Joshua Slocum. Maybe one more to read ?
Hopefully next season I'll either find another club or just have my own little boat to keep practicing !
Thanks again for the advice everyone.

Hi Ali, another really good book is "A World of my own" by Robin knox Johnson. It is his story of the first solo round the world race, which he won. Hope you have a great holiday.

Seeing as you are in the UK, I would alternate being on a club-level race team and taking RYA courses to increase your sailing skills. I would also get a few reference works for engine and fibreglass repair; go on any decent sailor's boat and you'll see a bunch of well-thumbed (and often grease-stained) tomes of this sort.

On of my favorites is Sterling Haydens 'Voyage'. Usually there is a library not too far from the water...and the previous posters suggestions about books on maintenance and upkeep...great idea...saved us many times.

Re: I've started! Book suggestions!
Ali, I recently finished a book"Reaching Port" by Keith Jones. It is a story of Keith from Montana who built his own sailboat in Montana and then sailed around the world with his wife in 1970. No very instructional but one of the most exciting books I have read in a long time. Keith was truly a little crazy and very lucky. A great read.

Re: I've started! Book suggestions!
Thanks for the extra suggestions ! I'm kind of looking for stories as well as instructional so that's all good. As sad as it is I've been addicted to Clive Cussler, dirk pitt novels. I have a feeling he's to blame for the scuba diving and now sailing !

Blue Water, Green Skipper by Stuart Woods
awesome memoir from a good author about his beginnings in sailing, from racing dinghies to entering himself in a transatlantic race back in the 60's. very good read.

Ali,
I enjoyed reading the book reviews written by ALCHEMY. See his link in his signature, at the bottom of his post above.
-------
You asked for novels.
I recently enjoyed reading "The Boat Who Would Not Float" by Farley Mowat. It is a popular funny partially autobiographical story.
Also, the "possibly true yarns" or books by Tristan Jones will likely stimulate anyone's taste for adventures while sailing. I enjoyed reading them years ago.
