From the Sea

Do any Liveaboards make an income harvesting resources from the sea and selling the goods?

Do you know of any Liveaboards who tend a trove of lobster pots, or harvest sponges from the Gulf, or anything like that?

Just a passing thought.

Which Gulf would that be has sponge diving?

I lived on Kalymnos for a while in the Dodecanese, but I doubt the locals do that much anymore even there.

Re: From the Sea

I've never heard of a liveaboard lobsterman, although I'm sure it happens occasionally when the wife kicks them out of the house. I suspect most people don't want to live at work.

Around here, recreational lobster and fishing licenses don't allow the catch to be sold; it's for personal consumption only. I suspect that's true in a lot of places, for anything harvested from the oceans.

There may be hobbies, like weaving old fishing warp into doormats, or sculpting driftwood, which bring in some pocket change for some. And of course, full-time jobs in the marine trades like working at a marina, or on boat repair.

Yes.
They tend to be called fishermen though.
Here they have to have a commercial fishing license which is very expensive now.
I can’t think of any nation which doesn’t restrict fishing in its waters.
