Do Australian Customs Care How Much Fuel You Have in the Tank ?

Just wondering if its worth fuelling your boat up first in the States if you're importing one from there - as its probably half the price.. and could be quite a saving if you're talking thousands of litres for a big trawler?

I guess the shipper might charge you a bit more for weight too...

Shipping rates go by volume not weight.

Re: Do Australian Customs Care How Much Fuel You Have in the Tank ?

G'Day mate,

When we imported our previous yacht customs didn't even ask about fuel. However, it was a boat that we'd sailed over, been in and out of Oz a few times on her own bottom, and thus was a bit different than one newly purchased and shipped in.

Another thing, shippers may prefer empty tanks re fire risk... no experience, so only a guess.

Cheers,

Jim
