Buying/selling a boat in Dominican Republic, paperwork and taxes

Hello Cruises!
Just wondering if anybody knows the process to sell/buy a boat in Dominican Republic? Including paperwork, taxes etc.
Could the boat also be registered there? If not, would I just take the DR paperwork to the place I want it registered?
I'm mostly looking for general information on buying/selling a vessel outside it's country of origin (USA).
Any information would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

We purchased our current vessel in the DR. The previous owner had to pay $4000 us to get her de flagged so I definitely would not intentionally flag her there unless you planed to keep her there for a long time. Other than that prepare for a lot of bribes and patience.

Thank you so much for your input! It's so nice to hear from some actual experience rather than hear-say

Hi Dave
I was wondering if you could expand on the details around deflagging, bribes and time delays you went through?
I’m not fishing for any identifying info, just wondering about the hurdles encountered
I’m interested in a European catamaran there but know nothing else of what to expect beyond the asking price
Did you US/other register your boat after leaving DR or before?
Appreciate any extra you could tell

@ Lani, do you want to buy or sell?
what flag is the boat?

@Thorntonite
what flag is the boat that you are interested in?
boats need to clear out once a year and pay some taxes.
If you buy a not-dominican flagged boat that hasn't been cleared out for years then you will have to pay penalties and the fees.
