bill of sale, multiple owners, multiple locations

My wife and I are selling a Coast Guard documented boat, we're currently in different locations.

I can Fedex the Title and bill of sale to her for signature, but how do you get it notorized? Do you need a notary for each owner in each location?

Or do I have to drive to where she is and get everything signed?

Pay some money to a boat documentation company. When I bought mine, everything was done online.

Boat documentation company will charge for getting the papers notarized, will charge for sending them via Fedex to the spouse(both ways), and will charge for their services too, all while taking longer than simply Fedexing it yourself and each of you getting a notary for your signature(s). There are notaries in most banks. All you need is to have it ready at the closing - it can be signed any time beforehand. Not a major hurdle.

Re: bill of sale, multiple owners, multiple locations

OK, I figured this out, so I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else needs it.

For documented boats, the coast guard has a standard bill of sale. For multiple owners in different locations, just print fill out and print two bills of sale, one for each owner (in this case, each owner owns 50% of boat). Have the two bills of sale notarized individually in each owner's location, and present both to the buyer, adding up to the 100%.

The new owner will send both forms in to the documentation center.

Easy peasy.

Save yourself some time and trouble. Go to the coastguard website and download their bill of sale. They questioned everything on my original bill of sale. I finally used theirs and documentation went thru the next time...
