Re: Best 34-38 ft yacht for Pacific cruising

Hi Richard. I have a Roberts offshore 38 steel for sale, everything you describe. Top condition. I spent 40K in 2015/2016 up grading her. It's moored at Iluka NSW. Great yacht, in your price range, with really nothing much to spend on her. I've owned her for about 7 years. My wife and myself took a year off work in 2016 and sailed to the Whitsundays and back. 8 months. We had no problems.

Listed on Yachthub.com. This is the link https://yachthub.com/list/yachts-for...ffshore/229258

I'm selling her because I'm based for work now the country NSW and myself and my wife just don't get to spend the time on her as we would like.

Regards

Jonathan

Worth noting Whangarei or Opua in N Z can be cheaper for yacht refurbishment than Sydney area, and most of the tradesmen are familiar with the needs of long range cruising yachtsmen, unlike many so called shiprights in NSW.

Re: Best 34-38 ft yacht for Pacific cruising

Dear all,
I ended up buying a Ganley design 38 ft 'timerider', a NZ 1987 built steel cutter with a skeg-hung rudder. She is well set up for cruising but it appears that some systems haven't been as well maintained as I would have liked and some work done looks more suited to a cabin in the mountains than a sailing vessel. Although this might not be my last boat I feel that I could get her up to a safe offshore cruising standard by mid next year, investing quite a bit of time but no more than 10k AUD. If the Covid situation allows it, the plan is to take her up to the Solomons and possibly the Bismarck Archipelago in July/August. I feel that getting started is more important than finding the optimal boat straight away, provided I do not put myself in a dead corner financially (which I did not). I will learn so much over the next few years that will enable me to better find my 'dream boat' if I desire a different one. Thank you all again for taking the time helping me out with your insights and comments. Safe cruising and always a hand-width of water under your keel (as German sailors would say...)

^^^^

Well done, Richard and thanks for the fill-in. It's always good to hear how these searches end up... especially if the new owner then keeps us alerted to his travels.

Good cruising to ya, and down with Covid.

Jim

Really nice to read of a positive closure Richard.
Great choice too.
Hoping to see you somewhere in the islands when the borders open.
