+1

A sh#tty part of the world to be broke in - for both locals and foreigners.

30 years ago (or even 10 years ago) being a Westerner (PC for white fella ) in that part of the world had a lot more value.

Nowadays not so easy to trade on the simple fact that you are a "Westerner" and therefore are / will be "rich", even if presently potless .

The commute can be a little trying though....

Meaning to have replaced the average wage you would work for by investments.

I could stay in Australia and survive and if wanting a maid, gardener and to live a reasonably flamboyant lifestyle still needing to work until 67 and beyond
or I could have all of that right now, in asia.

I'll take the retire 25 years early with the fantastic lifestyle option thanks.

Re: Australia Is Such an Overpriced Sh**hole - AAARGH

So as far as a western country goes Australia isn't so bad? Have not seen any comments supporting any other contender??

There's no arguing that using our western money in an Asian or for that matter many other third world countries gives a "flamboyant" lifestyle HOWEVER it is Australia and probably Australian Investments that give us this choice..... Not too bad for a shithole??

And no doubt any ex-pat's that have serious health issues will quickly hi-tail it back to Aust???

Cheers..

if you cant its an overpriced sh**hole

And how does that help average joe working stiff with no spare money for investing let alone dreams of early retirement?

Why would they?
They will not be covered by the Aust. system and will have to pay anyway, may as well use one of the many higher quality hospitals in Malaysia and even Vietnam that put many Australian hospitals to shame, for a fraction of the cost.

Just for a perspective check.

The poor in most SEA countries do not have a government pension. Even Japan falls way short in terms of social safety nets.

The poor in Asia complain about the cost of rice not the cost of buying engines for their powercat...

Re: Australia Is Such an Overpriced Sh**hole - AAARGH

Hey i came through as an average working Joe who spent every minute working hard not playing games or sitting on a computer all day, i worked 15 hour days 6 day to 7 day weeks, nothing has changed there were no gifts given out in the 60's 70's 80's 90's its always been a case of working for what you get!

I know a hell of a lot that didn't work hard and realise early retirement dreams SIMPLY because they were happy with there lot and now they will be happy with what the government offers them. We are all different...

I'll choose Aussie hospitals after all i've paid for them over my years, but that's my perogative.

Paying 3% Medicare levy on your Aussie investments keeps you in the system if you are an Aussie citizen so why not?
Cheers

Things are different now as you should well be aware

A house that we (you and I) bought was approx 3 wage years for one person.
Now that same house for average Joe is 8 wage years.

A bit harder to get ahead dont you think?

For average Joe "TODAY" Australia is still and overpriced sh**hole

Oh I dont know, the excessive taxation treatment for those deemed to be "non resident" for one.

This type of thread so seldom has intelligent response in it.

Still we'll give it a shot and ask that you don't denigrate fellow members posts and try to stay respectful and in return we'll (the staff) make an effort to allow the thread to stay open and resist the urge to whack you with our metaphysical billy clubs.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Oh yeah, happy holidays.

Make sure you add a few days to the trip so you can give Queensland Health a big miss. It has had the most extraordinary history of stupidity known to government.

Re: Australia Is Such an Overpriced Sh**hole - AAARGH

Honestly i do wish you well, however i cannot see the point of wasting our collective time daring to have a differing opinion to you, i agree with a lot of what you are saying HOWEVER i take exception to any person calling Australia a shithole.

Yes things are different, but if the average Joe gets off his arse he can realise his/her dream.

Maybe spend more time working on your boat and less on your computer then you can get back to the lucky life. Cheers i hope it works for you.

And Victoria? I don't think Qld has the mortgage on bad management in government departments!
