Yep, I was just inside my friends Island Packet 38 and was surprised how roomy it was for its size, although it is a bit tubby design that I am sure sacrifices some speed compared to other boats.

Other than that its a really comfortable boat with beautiful teak interior.
One thing that was unique was the aft double birth, which I though was a nice addition.

I would prefer if everyone on here bashes on the IP38 so the market can be saturated for SaltyMonkey's choice when he pulls a trigger. Please, a little CF courtesy and criticism!

Just to be clear; I wasn't recommending an IP, just saying it met the OPs question.

I have to say that the IPs have almost a cult type following

Westsail 43 strong, fast, roomy cruising vessel, although I wish Crealock would have utilized a tiller and external hung rudder.

Reliance 44 is another possible boat for the list. Great size for a liveaboard, full keel and heavy displacement. Build quality varies as some of the boats were completed at the factory and some were not.

Hence the nickname, Island Piglet?

Here we are having to rough it on our Freya 39ft and 6 inches. We call it our gentleman's club. Having a long keel means you can go deeper into the boat and we have 6'6 head room in the saloon and 6'2 through the rest of the boat

Re: A Full Keel Blue Water Cruiser Worthy of Living Aboard

I wish we had the double sink which we will rectify in time. Both port and starboard saloon births have lee cloths and i sleep in the stbd side at sea though i have seen Freyas with a narrower saloon and two midships births up above the seats. I sometimes think that would be the better option. If i get the chance i will get on one. I think there are more Freyas in the USA then here.

Re: A Full Keel Blue Water Cruiser Worthy of Living Aboard

The salon settee berths on my Freya are 7' long and are the very best sea berths on the boat. Forward, I've changed a large double to staggered single berths. The large 1/4-berth, aft, converts to a double.

Talking doubles, the galley sink is already a deep double. But I have plans to replace it with an even larger restaurant-style double stainless unit.
