Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

Hopefully I launch tomorrow - Catawba Island, Ohio, Lake Erie. It’s been a long winter!

Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

Launching in Waukegan scheduled for 5/5, sailing down to mooring at Jackson Park Chicago with a possible stop at Wilmette Harbor for a walkabout. I teach elementary school- great match for sailing out of Chicago! Last day is June 2...

Still ice in the Bay. Inside the islands along Georgian Bay still has fast ice, with some areas reported 20" thick...... Maybe by July????

Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

On the other side of Huron, at the bottom of Saginaw Bay, April launches are a rarity. We're scheduled for April 30, knowing we were pushing it. The boat yard and buildings are still full. Weather has been such that I'm bottom painting and waxing after work, rather than a nice leisurely warm weekend.

Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

Launched my 20' sloop on 3.27 at the Clinton river on lake st clair. There was ice frozen to the dock and I had to remove my outboard due to freezing temps at night.

Launched my 26' searay at on 4.29.

Launching the dingy and moving to the marina on 5.5.

Summertime.

And ... it's done. Took me by surprise actually.

Cleaned and polished Tuesday, bottom paint yesterday, asked the yard manager what the launch schedule looked like and he said "as soon as possible." So she went in the water first thing this morning. (Saint Lawrence River - Thousand Islands)

Its been a horrible spring trying to get the boat ready. Our launch will probably be late May up in Georgian Bay

Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

I helped launch ~200 boats at our club last weekend. Unfortunately, mine wasn't among them. Too freakin busy with work. Aiming for mid-May if not sooner.

Launched yesterday and had a great sail down from Waukegan to Chicago. Went out today and played in the wind and the waves.

Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

I waxed the hull last weekend, and just did the antifouling today. So I just have to give the outboard some love, and we can launch.

Better late than never. It's my own fault for starting a new job in April. What was I thinking....

Re: Spring is coming - When's your launch?

Summer is approaching here in Central America, which means rainy season here in Panama...lots of rain, lightening, and light winds...will be putting the boat to bed soon to recommission in "winter" months to start our cruising season! 😉

Further north in Central America gets into rainy season AND hurricane season.

So, opposite to those in Norte America, down here we launch in "winter" months and stow for summer.
