looking for a great lakes yacht broker.

Anyone have any recommendations?
It seems to be getting clear that our plans will be scraped and it would be a shame to have a boat that is ready to go just sit around.

We will not do anything yet but I do like to line up my ducks in advance.

Maybe Torresen in Muskegon, they are good people? They have the facility to handle large boats and advertise quite a bit.

Sorry to see you decide to sell, hope things get better and you change your mind.

There is no doubt that Torrensen has a lot to offer a sailor in many areas but I have not been impressed with the way they try to sell boats.

I think it's Larson in Waukegan Il. They seem to be rather well advertised.

Thanks Pat but I know of the larger named places on the great lakes, I am looking for a personal recommendation from someone that has bought or sold a boat here and that was happy with the broker.

Our boat will be surveyed this Tuesday and I would expect that it will get a clean bill of health. This was set up a couple of weeks ago for new insurance but now it will also be a sales aid.

Hey Gunner,

I was surprised to hear your comments about Torresen, we bought our boat there and they treated us very well.

The opportunity to sell a boat that size in the the Great Lakes may prove problematic. There are few yards that can handle 61 foot boats.

Toledo Beach on Lake Erie may be option, they did have a sales office on Lake Michigan, not sure if that is still open. http://www.toledobeachmarina.com/index.htm
We are no longer able to keep our boat at TBM since the water is down but they are good people who do very good work.

You could move the boat to the East Coast or possibly Florida? The other 60 footer at TBM moved his boat to Florida to sell it.

The good news is there are only twenty 60 footers on the market today. Not a lot of competition and if the boat is clean and well priced it should move quickly. We get unsolicited inquiries regularly to sell our boat, go figure.

Good luck

Hi Joli, It is not my intention to be negative about Torrenson. They run first rate operation. They have the best service and a very well stocked marine store. But I have watched how they present the listings that they have and I was not very impressed.
