Re: Launching in 20 days.....

All I have to do is touch up the bottom on Saturday. Then I can launch any time the marina will do so. So it's time to take the ski parka, heavy gloves, and such to the boat for spring sailing.

Oh, and BTW...we're less than six months from haul out!

Re: Launching in 20 days.....

This winter has been weird, ice is off 3 weeks early here. I'm cleaning the boat everyday after work so we can launch this Saturday. The marina doesn't officially open until may 1 but that just means I don't have to work around other people launching;-).
And it's going to be 20 C this weekend!!!

You guys are pretty hardy up there......talking of Parka's etc. I can get chilly in the tropics.

Re: Launching in 20 days.....

Launching at Kentucky Lake as soon as I can get a stinking day off. It's a cryin' shame that sailing weather is also the busiest time for a painting contractor (me). Thank GOD that I'm selling out in two years, and retiring on the water.

Aarrrgh!!

Re: Launching in 20 days.....

We launched today, and helped a couple others raise masts and splash. We also came home redder than my bottom paint! This weather is crazy!! Mid April in Alberta, 23 deg. C
That said, snow forcasted for next weekend so we will see.

Launching in 20 days.....

Southern California. Low 80s Fahrenheit (27 C) sunny, wind 10-15 knots. No snow in the forecast. What is a launch day?😎

Launch Day is when you put your hard-bound boat back into the cool fresh water. You'll then adjust your 40 year old, rust-free standing rigging and run the ten year old, unbleached running rigging.

It's when you look forward to being able to dive into the warm waters without concerns for sharks or jellyfish, and rest easy knowing that if you ran out of water you're surrounded by enough drinking water to cover the Middle East.

Sounds nice. Just be sure before you dive in that the water isn't still hard.😀

Re: Launching in 20 days.....

Just got splashed!

Three weeks late. There was one boat in the barn, of course the one right in front, who was supposed to be ready to go in mid-April; of course, he decided to completely refinish his bottom and held everyone up.

May: damn, it's cold out here

June: wow, it's 10C cooler here than at home...maybe I'll go home

July: I can't believe it's still cool on the lake

August: Finally! It's warm! Damn, is that another thunderstorm?

September: This weather is beautiful! I'm sure it will last another month

October: Ugh. This is awful rain. I suppose it's time to haul out.

Note to our dear non-boating friends: I know it's hard for you to understand, but June through September we will not be attending any weddings, family gatherings, clambakes, birthday parties, etc.
