Re: Lake Ontario Meet 'n Greet Weekend

thousand islands for July sounds like a good idea, i am working out the dates and places where we will be heading, so far Kingston for a nite, Gan@ the playhouse for sure, and then two more days on the islands and back to Picton, so were looking at a week in the area.

Since I am there already, let me know when & where the hook up will be, so I can do my bets to be there.

Thats a 4 day sail for me to get there, not sure if I can swing the time frame, but would be interested in a Grampian weekend on the eastside of the lake for sure, or even coburg area, there are a few G26's in the kingston area and another in Picton. That could be as many as 6 boats that could do a closer weekend.

As for the 1000 islands we are looking the 1st weekend to celebrate Canada day in the area, how many are looking around that time, were looking to launch a ton of fireworks and have some fun for our kids 11&13.

Anyone else looking to be in that area around this time frame
Bill

Re: Lake Ontario Meet 'n Greet Weekend

as a side note, if there is interest and you have kids as well, I could also tow my jet ski along and offer up some tubing and knee boarding while at anchor or docked, either is cool with me, the kids love to play on the toy and it does make for some fun, all I ask is a small contribution to the gas and we could use it for the weekend of fun and sun

Re: Lake Ontario Meet 'n Greet Weekend

Kingston's beautiful right now (and I'm not just saying that because I live and work here)! So far this summer, there's no shortage of good sailing weather, or of transient dock space. I haven't been out on the lake/river as much as I'd like this year, though- thanks to something called "thesis research". Feel free to PM me if you're in the area; Sunset Chaser could use a bit of exercise if there's a meet-up around here.

Re: Lake Ontario Meet 'n Greet Weekend

Hi Bill, I'm new to this but live near Toronto and Lake |Ontario is nearest to me. I would like to meet up with some fellow sailors, I do not own a boat myself, but would love to be able to join in and perhaps get in some sailing. Haven't done any serious sailing for some years now, but would love the opportunity to get out on the lake.

Re: Lake Ontario Meet 'n Greet Weekend

I just wanted to post in this thread so I can find it later.

I am a new sailor, soon to be based on Muscote Bay in Prince Edward County.

If you are ever in the area, and see a funny looking gaff rigged boat with leeboards sailing sideways with a guy trying to untangle himself from the rigging, that would probably be me.

Ha, joking aside, once I learn to sail well enough I hope to attend some future get-together.

Re: Lake Ontario Meet 'n Greet Weekend

Hey DutchTreat:

As I have been hanging out here, what, a whole 2 months longer than you, Welcome!

My wife and I are 2 hours north on Belleville and hope to be based out of there one day. We will likely join the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club next year.

I am the proud owner of 1 functional Albacore, one broken Albacore, and one broken Laser. I am working on it. I actually got out in the Albacore once this year after getting it seaworthy, but I have had medical problems this summer and am now in the 6 week recovery period after abdominal surgery last week. Hopefully I will get out again in October.

As I am very tall, we will likely end up with a boat in the 34 to 39 foot range. A CS36T or Niagara 35 are likely target boats, but we are still learning.

So back to armchair sailing ...

Bay of Quinte YC is a pretty basic place with really nice people. You've got to love a club made out of what looks like aluminum-sided cottages from the '60s, but which features a dory cut lengthwise in half as its bar!

As for your height and need to get a boat that fits, consider a centerboard. Bay of Quinte's water can get a little thin by September or in a dry year, and we had to watch our depth drawing just six feet, esp. at the western end.

Yes, my wife and I visited BoQYC a couple months back and had a nice tour and chat for a half hour or so with Susan S. I can't recall if she were a member of the board, or just a longstanding member who just took the time. She sent us on our way with a half dozen old sailing magazines. I could not justify joining this year being laid up most of the summer, but my plan is to show up on haul out day/weekend with next years dues in hand.

Thanks for the heads up on the draft issue.
