Final destination is Somewhere on Lake Erie--Port Colborne or Port Dover...winter there, staged for moving down the Erie canal next season.

Can't recall if I mentioned this. It's a free online tool:

When passing through these waters we mainly used Richardson's chartbook, Ports books and Waterway Guide. This, along with good digital and paper charts.

Re: Lake huron to lake erie

I was born and raised in La Salle south of Windsor on the Detroit river. LaSalle itself has sadly turned its back on its waterfront location.

There are two nice bays short of the Lake Erie entrance, Turtle and Crystal bays, that are great places to hang out outside of summer weekends. The border goes up the middle of These bays so you will see patrols probably.

If you are in no hurry, amherstburg and fort Malden are mellow and interesting respectively. Grocery stores a practical stroll from where you would park the dinghy.

Would not eat river fish downstream of the steel plants.

Join Great Lakes Cruising Club. Not expensive. Their cruising guides (for all 5 lakes & connecting waterways) are amazing & they have port captains in most harbors to advise & help you out.
