Lake Erie ?

Anyone know how bad the weather will be around mid oct. Early nov.? Im planing on taken the st lawrence outa here for warmer waters but can't leave till nov. 1st. Give or take a day or two...I heard it gets choppy but is that all winter?

Did Port Dover to Kingston this year the last week of May through the welland and rounded prince Edwrd County, had mixed rain cold rain, both can kick up and throw a tantrum, so you should prepare for this and hope for a S-SW - W and your almost driving a straight line to the St lawrence.
Was a great trip.

Im buyin a vessel from up there and I can't afford to store it or trailer Her down so unless there's a way to live aboard her warmly and comfortabley I gota make do

Can I get to the missinhippie river from lake erie? Might be easier then this headache with all the closed locks

It would help to know what kind of boat you have and what your experience level is. Rounding Gaspe in November is not for beginners.

Mississippi river...lol i hope to be doing the trip on a 24' bristol with very little exp. Been a commercial fisherman for 6 years south pacific to dutch harbour. And I all ready know running an engine is different then hoisting a sail...but im in a bind so....

Mississippi , I believe is closed in the lower reaches due to flooding.
Take a look at a map, Rounding Gaspe will put you at a latitude slightly higher than Lake Superior. If you leave November 1, in that boat you will be rounding Gaspe in December....... suicidal.

If the Champlain locks and the Troy lock open as they are supposed to in the next 10 days, you could head south from Sorel in Quebec but you would have to unstep your mast for the low bridges, that would get you into the Hudson River. Maybe by that time The USCG will have lifted the Hazardous Navigation warnings for the Hudson.

what is holding yo till Nov. Is there away that the boat could be skippered by someone else and you meet up along the way and then get lessons with your skipper along the way. You could realistically have it round the point and heading south by the time nov hits

That might be a really good idea.. I was planing on posting in the crew wanted threads. Only thing holdin me up is the all mighty dollar. Don't have the cash till then.

That does not mean that you still could not find a couple guys that could still start on your behalf and then you join them or take over with one or both and get your skills up along the way.
I'm sure there would be a couple people that would start something like this now so your boat is basically moving while you are finishing up your work requirements

You're too. Late August or at the latest early September is the time to leave for the route you're taking. As you might know the Erie Canal is closed, if you hurry you might make the Champlain. It's a bit late to head right down the St. Lawrence.
