Holiday ends tomorrow but the search for Squirt will continue.

In Kingston On tonight, mooched a hot shower at the Coast Guard station. Ahhhhhhhhh a lil' Old Spice and I might go up town tonight! Wohoo!!!!

We transited 15 locks today from Big Rideau Lake to Kinston. It was a very long day and KG got toasted on the bow all day! I did my best to find her some shade in some of the locks. Plenty of boats heading out of the system now after our last long weekend till Labour day.

We did however see some nice (and weird) boats on the way down..... Sorry about the quality of some of the pics.

We got a call today from someone who spotted a big orange cat in their neighborhood. If it was Squirt he's travelled about 8 miles in 8 days and is heading east (towards home). We scoured the area but couldn't locate him today so we'll go back with more flyers and lean towards the east some more. Stay tuned.....

Hey Rick, I hope you get your cat back. Mine went off the balcony twice about 12 years ago and I looked all over. Both times about 11pm she was sitting down below the balcony waiting for me. Next apartment I live in will be on a higher floor...

Update

Update! Squirt's Alive!!!

We got another call from a camper near where he jumped ship. Headed right up there to check it out. About 20 minutes of calling for him I spotted him in the woods. He wouldn't come to me so Lori went in with some food. Sure enough she managed to grab him but in the hand off he bolted and we've got the bite marks and scars to prove it! The lil' bugger took off. We weren't really prepared for what he'd do and on top of all that it was pouring rain at just the wrong time. We tried to find him again but he was the proverbial "scalded cat" and took off. Not having a plan we took a few minutes to figure out what to do. He's reverted to his feral instincts and we probably wouldn't get another chance to grab him so we bought a trap (friendly kind) and baited it. We watched it for a few hours and he hadn't shown up. It's still there and we'll check it again in the morning.

At least we know where he is and he's alive. Just a matter of time before his gut gets the better of him!! Stay tuned.....

Glad to hear that Squirt's alive. Perhaps, it's time to re-write your will?

Cats According To Dave Barry - Cats are less loyal than dogs, but more independent. (This is code. It means: "Cats are smarter than dogs, but they hate people.") Many people love cats. From time to time, newspapers print stories about some elderly widow who died and left her entire estate, valued at $320,00, to her cat, Fluffkins. Cats read these stories, too, and are always plotting to get named as beneficiaries in their owners' wills. Did you ever wonder where your cat goes when it wanders off for several hours?

It meets with other cats in estate-planning seminars. I just thought you should know."

What I have found, in my limited experience hunting cats, is that if they don't want to be found you wont find them.

Maybe if you set up in a comfortable position near where you know your cat is and just chill for a while, especially at dusk or just after dark, he may just wander over to say hello. Especially if you place out a bit of his favorite food... Once they are spooked it takes them a while to calm down, and being out of his element he is pretty spooked.

I think we spooked him pretty good last time we caught him. Going back today to set him up with a shelter and food. Gotta find someone to keep the dish full. We won't be able to go back except for weekends now. Hopefully we can lure him back and make him feel comfortable. He'll have his blanky and catnip stuffed rat that'll hopefully remind him of home.

I miss the dumb lil' sh*t!

Wow, that cat turned a nice cruise into a pain in the ass. I hope you have success. You are obviously attached to him.

Good luck man,
Paul

Squirt's been missing for just over 2 weeks now. We went back tonight and heard him but he wouldn't come to us. We've been leaving food in his pet-carrier with his blanket and stuffed rat. Hopefully we'll be able to lure him in close enough so we can get ahold of him again. He's being pretty leary though. The folks who own the trailer will be back tomorrow so hopefully they can keep an eye out for him.

Now why would a cat give up this for life in the bush?

Hey, Rick. At 20 lbs, that kitty can hold out for weeks! Our little Calico is only 8 lbs, and the locals call her "Fat Cat". Be patient, he'll come around.

Not a great time when a pet runs away. I've been there, too, years ago. Good luck!
