Ice boating 2019

It's been a hit-or-miss year on the shores of Lake Ontario. Last few days have been pretty good though- best ice I've seen in 10 years, and more boats playing hooky from work than I've ever seen!

Local videographer captured this:

Somethings wrong will your water, it's meant to be soft.

We could send you some warmth.

Yeah, I know.

Me mate from SYD visited and was surprised to see people watering lawns, washing vehicles that didn't look like they'd come from Coober Pedy, and leaving the water running in the sink.

So I took him to the lake. I said "It's 400km long, 100km wide, all fresh water, and there are four more!" Now he understood.

Might I add: no sharks, no stingrays, no blue rings, no jellies. No poison snakes, no redbacks, no funnel webs.

Aside from that, there's nothing like 120kph under sail!

Re: Ice boating 2019

Fickle temperatures have killed the Lake Ontario iceboating. We've had a number of people and dogs go through the ice, some lived.

Just returned from FL where I saw lots of boats sailing, and many more that haven't moved in years. Sad.

Looks like a couple DN's and a Yankee?

Our season (Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin-USA) has been over for a couple weeks. Too much snow on the ice now. Ice thickness is approaching 20" and more sub-zero nights this week. Some ice roads are open and people are taking their trucks out to fish.

Re: Ice boating 2019

We got a nice thaw, but this storm is going to put a nail in iceboating. I’ll hope it blows clear after a few days.

We have a few fleets with a variety of DN, Skimmers, Arrows, and a Skeeter. Plus oddball designs and the wing guys.
