ice

12-06-05 the lake froze over ending the 2005 sailing season. It will be about 5 months before we can sail again.

Not for me! However on the few times it snowed while we were out there I would call it snowmoboating.

Indeed, ice has appeared in the harbours here as well. ( Lake Ontario) The open water ( outside harbours ) is of course not frozen. It never freezes. That does not mean I would enjoy sailing out there in this weather.
We are lucky here, ice boats do come out from time to time. Keep in mind conditions are very specific for ice boats. The snow has to have blown away for one thing. They are something to watch. Are they ever fast!!! It is astonishing.

Ice boats

Ice boats tend to prove that drag is what slows down sail boats.
You remove the drag and the things take off like a haunted out house.

I have also seen the ice boats out, they can just fly. I know a guy that sails one and if I remember right he said that he had once been clocked at 110 mph.
