Great Lakes Cruising Club (GLCC) Worth it?

Is anyone here a GLCC member? I see their table every year at Strictly Sail and wonder if their cruising guides are worth it.

If you cruise, particularily further afield, they are absolutely worth it.
Disclaimer: At one time, I was GLCC Port Captain for the entire North Shore of Lake Superior.

Thanks Gord. Local knowledge is always nice. We've had to 'reinvent the wheel' for a number of destinations.

We used their guides last summer in the north channel and they were very helpful.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club (GLCC) Worth it?

I have found every cruising club I've ever joined well worth it. SSCA, OCC, CA, MTOA, GLCC, etc. They are great chances to meet people, get 1st hand info and support, and contribute to the education of the next generation (pay it forward). I guess my total dues come to about $400 a year; from anchoring rights battles to webinars to Gams and Rendezvous, it's worth it to me. If you sail the Lakes I think you'll find it well worth it. That said, you get out of volunteer run groups what you put into them. Join, get on a committee, volunteer for an event as you cruise though.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club (GLCC) Worth it?

This is a near-decade old thread, so I suspect the OP has long answered their question. But just to add my personal experience. I was a GLCC member for number of years. In the end, I left b/c I didn’t feel there was enough value for the money, but it’s definitely a good organization, and offers services and connections that many people will find valuable.

BTW, I also recently left the SSCA for similar reasons. Not enough value for money … So I guess I’m not much of a joiner .
