Erie & Oswego Closed

Anyone else stuck waiting for the canal to open? We have been in Sodus Bay since Friday and dragging our feet from the Welland since last Wed. Rumor has it that it may open Tuesday morning. We called the lockmaster in Oswego and he asked us to call him if we heard anything.

After a lot of rain the canal is often closed as the locks will not lift high enough. This time of the year the delay is usually a few days. The longest delays I've encountered is in the late spring when coming home. I'm sure all will be fine and you'll be getting warmer every day. Sometimes in extreme conditions and many of the marks have been swept out of position the Canal Authority will convoy boats through. Enjoy your trip.

Wow, thanks Rick! That is comforting to know...we are not *that* worried, but you know how it goes with the unknown and that whole "murphy's law" thing

thanks again! Perhaps we'll see you in the Bahamas, that is where we are headed!

It has been closed for a week now. Oswego opened this am. Erie still closed but we were told we could get from Oswego to Esskay by the lake.

Open all the way now, was closed a total of 10 days, traffic not as heavy as expected. Lots of debris in the water and some missing nav aids but totaly passable. We made it from Sodus Bay to Brewertown. Fog this am, sip sip has it that there is a 19' foot bridge around Saracuse due to some construction scaffolding beneath it.
