Can You Recommend a Marine Surveyor Near Blind River, ON?

Recently purchased a Bayfield 29 on the hard in Blind River, Ontario.

Can anyone recommend a marine surveyor in the area who is both competent and reasonable, I'd like to have the boat surveyed in the spring when we uncover it.

We plan on sailing it home to Lake Erie next summer, and I'm pretty sure that the insurance company will want a survey as the boat is a 1985.

Thanks,

gunk

I used Joe Trudeau (joe.trudeau@mclarens.ca) out of Midland who was recommended. Seemed to do an okay job. That is a fair trip for him to travel but I think that may be unavoidable.

Alternately, you could call your insurer and see if they have any recommendations.

Perhaps if you contact one of the marinas in the area or perhaps one of the charter companies they could put you in touch with someone.

Is the survey required finalize the purchase or for insurance?

Both. I am sure that any insurance company would want one, and if there are any significant issues, then the purchase will reflect that.

The boat belonged to a very good friend of mine....if I can't find a surveyor, we may just leave the boat in his name until we sail it down here, and then get a survey completed and do all the transfers. Just another possibility that we may have to explore.

There is also a fellow in Little Current...D. Gray I believe his name is...I've left him a telephone message but have not received a response as yet. He surveyed this same boat 8 years ago.

Thanks again

Re: Can You Recommend a Marine Surveyor Near Blind River, ON?

I found my last two surveyors by asking the insurance company for references. The theory is, if the surveyor is good enough for them, then it should be sufficient for my needs. At least that is the theory...
