Hello all, I'm fairly new to the Cruisers Forum, but happy to see it here. Are there any other cruisers here which sail the Bay of Green Bay, up or around Door County and into Lake Michigan area? Just curious, would enjoy meeting other sailors in the area. Chianti to go! Mark |

Well, we CAME from there. We purchased our boat in Sturgeon Bay and sailed it out here to Long Island. Well... motored is more the word when it came to the canals. ![]() I enjoyed our passage out of Door County and up around the tip there. We had a nice beam reach all the way up to Beaver Island. Good sailing over there. Quote:

I am with the Door County Sail & Power Squadron and I live in Sturgeon Bay. My wife and I did America's Great River Loop in 1999-2000. We are doing a GPS Seminar in Green Bay using the hand held Garmin chartplotter GPSMAP 76

Ahhh... the Great Loop! Very interesting. We met several people in the Erie Canal on our way back East who were on that trip. So do you know Larry Gage? He works for some construction company and was the former owner of my boat. I bought it from him approx 1 yr ago. He's an older guy who wasn't physically able to really get out there and sail so much... he mostly just motored around Sturgeon Bay area and unfurled the genoa from time to time. In fact, the main wasn't even on when we purchased. He had left it off and only used the genoa. The sailboat was called "Sea Dancer" and had a hailing port of FL, even though it has been in Sturgeon Bay for many years. According to a sticker, you folks did a couple inspections of the rigging. |

Sorry, I don't know Larry Gage or the Sea Dancer. Vessel checks are one of the Door County Sail & Power Squadrons major outreach programs. That and Boat Smart® are the two biggies for the DCS&PS. Other squadrons sponsor Boating Safety Classes as well. The link will take you to a place that lets you put in your ZIP code and it will come up with the classes near that ZIP code.

Hi Oday23sailor, I'm new to the bay this year and will be sailing out of Oconto. I have Nereus, a 1983 Hunter 30 that's Dark green with white topsides. Hope to see you out on the water this summer. Where do you sail while out on the bay? Fair winds, Dave

I understand from the Wisconsin Surveyor's Association that there is a Monument installed at the Public Boat Launch off of highway Y Its coordinates are N 44° 57.773' W 087° 46.935' Could you use your GPS to double check that it is in fact still there. Thanks Markus PS did you get my e-mail about where I sail in Sturgeon Bay?

Hi Mark, My home port is Oconto, WI and we will be sailing mostly in the bay of Green Bay this year. I got your message about the marker at the boat launch, Which boat launch? there are two of them. There is one at the county park near Hi seas Marina, and there is another one still on the river, closer to Green Bay near the point. Let me know.

Hello Nereus Sorry for being away for such a long time. I sail out of Green Bay, keeping my boat docked at The BoatYard here in Green Bay. The small marina is along the west side of the Fox River, about 1/2 nm south of the tower drive bridge. I'm in the process of selling my Oday 23. Moving up hopefully to an Oday 27!!! So next season, will be sailing on longer cruises and more comfort! Hope to chat more soon!! OH, FYI - I"m putting together the first annual Sieze the Bay next year. Still ironing out details but hoping to do something in which every sailboater out there, gets on the water, and fills the Bay of Green Bay with sails. A rendezvous party or sail parade is also an idea in addition. Love to chat more, get any sailboats involved! Mark |
