arrived at the summer berth

The day we sailed towards out summer berth, the marine weather said light and variable winds, shortly current conditions were reporting 20 knots and rising, it eventually hit 31 knots. All the while the marine radio was saying light and variable winds.
At no point were we able to raise all our sails. The reaches sort of look like a Z, at one point we were running downwind with two very small headsails up, (wing to wing) making 5.5 knots.
We had two friends with us, one experienced, one who had never sailed. Interestingly it was the experienced fellow, who ceased to pay attention for moment or two and had water rushing down the side deck. No mean feat with those six plus inch bullwarks. Mark looked up and said," hey go to windward a bit will ya. " Luckily the fellow that had never sailed before did not get alarmed. In fact he wants to sail again, and learn how to sail. Hopefully in warmer temps, we had to wear our winter coats.
We pulled in for the night at a familiar cove, had a great supper and a n ice evening.
The next day was indeed light and variable. The two of us had an enjoyable if slow day sailing.
Today we are fashioning a new digny mast, ours broke under sail. Whatever would we do without boat maitenance and rebuilding.?
Cheers
