Anchorages Along the St. Lawrence ?

Hi all,
I'm hopeing to do this route (as opposed to taking the New York canal system) in my Corbin 39 but unfortunately will not be doing it this Spring.
That said, I thought I'd put it out there that I'd certainly be willing to crew for one of you. If that is something you could use.

The river is going to busy in June. A few spots you might want to cosider. Once out of the locks. Sorrel, Trois Rivierre a day from Sorrell. Then a long day to Quebec city (Quebec Yacht club in Sillery). Cap a Laige 1/2 way to Taddousac worth the stop for the whales at the mouth of the Saguenay River or Rimouskie doable because of the current. From Tadoussac the North shore is pretty much anchorages S shore towns and Marina's. Rimouskie, Matane, St. Anne De Mont, Rivierre Renard, Gaspe' Magdeline Islands PEI etc. N shore out to Harrington Harbour cross to Cornerbrook NF (75 mi +/-) then S to Port au Basque cross the straits to Sydney or into the Bra D'Or lakes out the St. Peters canal into the Atlantic and South to? It's all fun and no need to sail overnight.

I'll be watching this thread as it goes along. I plan on doing the same route when I retire. Current time line sez get the boat ready this year and possibly leave next may (2012) if the numbers are right for retiring.

Born in Sorel, I know the fleuve St-Laurent quite well between Montreal and Trois-Rivieres. If you want to get ashore in Mtl, better to go in one of the marinas. No anchoring near downtown.

After Montreal, depending on your draft, you can anchor almost all along since the river is narrow, wind light and the current around 2 knots. Contrecoeur islands can be a hide-away. Then you have 2 marinas in Sorel but if you want to anchor in a special spot, get in the Chenal du Moine, in Les Iles de Sorel (south shore). Snug and calm (except week-ends).

Past les Iles de Sorel, you enter St-Pierre lake, shallow. You must follow the channel up to Trois-Rivieres. If you are early in the season, you may have enough water to enter St-Francois River to anchor. Good holding in mud. (south shore just before Trois-Rivieres).

Sailed down from Toronto to St. Anthony, Newfoundland, 2009-10

additional suggestions:
Rimouski - S shore, E of Quebec - very friendly marina and lots of local suppliers
Godbout - N sahore, narrowest part, good place to cross
Sept-iles, N shore, great little city
La Tabatiere - N shore, E of Harrington Hbr - wonderful welcome
L'anse au Clair, Labrador
Red Bay, Labrador
Cook's Harbour, Newfoundland
St. Anthony, Newfoundland
Englee, Newfoundland - only place on N peninsula to haul out.

The North Shore from Sept-Iles eastwards to the Strait of Belle Isle needs careful planning and plenty of time. Even the Sailing Directions and Charts warn not to trust the charts "not surveyed to modern standards".

Wonderful region but needs caution.

Keep the updates as you move along the SLS, were looking to do this in spring 2012, then south along the coast to Bahamas for the winter. Am interested in the stops and times and duration at towns to help get a better idea of scheduling. All information apprecieted...

Have done the trip down and up. moving pretty quick both ways would like to spend a longer time in the river! You all might like to look a Flotilla97 and flotilla2000 I think they can still be found on google.

We will be doing this too in a couple of years. I have been told to plan to take a side excursion up the Saguenay River. It is extremely deep and within a chasm of very high and interesting geography. Enter at 48.07 N and 69.40 W according to my SeaClear charts.
