2019 The Wind Catcher

This year I plan on sailing my sailboat through the Great Lakes. Final Destination would be my new home Port at Patuxent River Naval Air Station on the Chesapeake Bay.

Would it be easier and cheaper for me just to haul the boat from somewhere in Buffalo over to Pax River? Should I do the Erie Canal again like I did in 2016 on the Great Loop? Am I really going to save any money by doing so? I have to have the masked hauled out and then set back in again.

I'm looking for a boat Transport company that's affordable. Any place on Lake Erie would do. I would like suggestions from any of you please.

If you think going by the Erie Canal would be cheaper say so.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Re: 2019 The Wind Catcher

I donít know how far you would need to truck the boat, but I look at it this way...
In either case (truck or sailing th canal), you need to unstep the mast and restep once you got her home.

Trucking WILL cost...not sure how much, but it will cost.

Canal will cost fuel and living expenses, but I imagine that is cheaper than trucking.

If you have unlimited time..otherwise, your time away from work has a cost.

Sounds like it would be a fun trip.
