Lewmar Ocean Series Self-Tailing Winch 43ST - $699.00 (plus postage - approx. $43)

We just found back in the corner of our storage unit of parts for our boat a "new" (in that it has never been used or installed) a Ocean Series Wave Spring Lewmar 43 Chrome-finish winch which we purchased new in 1992 as part of a whole package of new winches for our boat. This was going to be our portside # 2 halyard and #2 reefing line winch. But it never happened as we found that we did not need it. Instead we installed an electric Lewmar 43 as the main mast control line winch.

This winch will handle line diameter sizes from 1/2" on down to 5/16" in the self-tailer. Other size lines can, of course, be used but will not fit into the self-tailer.

One feature of the Lewmar Ocean Series winches is that they can be installed as normal self-tailing winches or you can purchase a conversion kit to make it into an electric winch. It involves adding a powerful DC motor and gear shaft up from underneath the winch into an already prepared access into the winch gearing.

These are approximate gear/power specifications as I cannot find the original data for the 43 series winch. However, we do have the installation instructions and the service manual .

Bottom of Base to bottom of line wrapping area: - 3"
Line Entry height: - 3-1/8"
Diameter of drum where line is wrapped - 3.375" (3-3/8")
Line Diameter (so it will fit into self-tailer).: 5/16"-1/2"
