For Sale: What to do with unused valise liferaft

We have a valise liferaft, circa 1983, valise opened but never unpacked and never used and never certified.
We will never use it!



It's about $500 to certify, which I don't want to spend, I have no idea what it is worth.


Do I, reluctantly, try to get it certified and risk it being uncertifiable (being out $500) or sell it uncertified/untested/whatever.


Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Blow it up and let the kids or grandkids play on it. You may very well enjoy as much as they do.

I don't think there are many people interested in purchasing an old life raft.

Use it as a training aid. Better to practice getting into a life raft before you life depends on it. Might be a good experience for your friends with boats as well - make a day of it.

In Australia we have volunteer marine rescue organizations dotted around the coast. I donated my old life raft to one of them to use as a demonstrator and training aid for the survival courses they teach.

Cruising in the 70s we had an extra Valise that we threw away the liferaft and converted to a dishwasher by placing a rod with paddles through it and brushes on the interior part of the rod we kept all of our dishes in there and when they were dirty we threw it overboard with a little bit of soap in it watching the paddles turn as it cleaned all of our dishes perfectly.
