We are looking for a 40 - 50 ft catamaran. Built between 1994 and 2002 preferably sold by owner, because we don't like agents of the type "used car dealer"... and the commission can be shared by seller and buyer for the benefit of both.Nautical electronics does not need to be up to date, because it will replaced... but we expect an overall well maintained condition, including motors .Looking forward for your suggestions!

Thank you johnar! We want to look more wide as catamarans are rare - compared to other builds. We have some in the Marinas we are working in, but even some owners are not using their vessels for years, they do not reply to purchase request... its weard, sometimes.

I cannot speak highly enough of the '94 Lagoon 42 we used to have. during that time frame the hulls were done by TPI (J boats etc)for Lagoon. Vacuum bagged and no blisters. The 42 is huge with typically four double stateroom each with it's own small setee and hanging locker. Built in cockpit tables and davits. Huge engine rooms that iopen completely up. Full galley with lots of counter space. The trendy latest "up" galleys are nice at first glance, but not nearly as big as the down versions. I would even buy the Lagoon 37... which is only a bit smaller inside than the 42. One thing to watch for: the vynil ceiling material is foam backed and the foam decomposes from the heat. Good luck.

I myself find the galley up a plus. There's the view, and of course your friends, and family too. I would think 2 people working the galley down would be more confining also.

Yea, there are pros and cons, depends on how much room you need. The lagoon had a refrig and sep freezer, a home style double sink, multiple cupboards etc. When working down there you could still hear the conversation in the salon and participate by just moving to the companionway. Also, everyone doesn't have to watch that mess your creating while cooking or live with the steam and garbage. But yes two people passing each other while cooking could be an issue. Like all boats, either way is a trade off.
