Volvo Penta MD7A exhaust Manifold

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a Volvo Penta MD7A (motor #14234) exhaust manifold (part #840288). The stretch goal would be to get a whole motor for spare parts.

My Dad was an avid sailor back in the day and his boat has been sitting at the docks for years. He lost the passion over time and when the motor stopped running due to a hole in the EM it didn't help. I'd love to rekindle our relationship, surprise him by turning wrenches on the motor, and start sailing with him. Anyone have anything kicking around in the bay area?

Thanks,
James

James,
there are a few MD7A parts floating around.
I'll send updates as they come online.
Send me a PM with email, if interested.
Doug

Re: Volvo Penta MD7A exhaust Manifold

Have you found your exhaust manifold you were looking for? Im desperately in need of the same exact part. Exhaust Manifold Part#840288. Im out of San Diego. I am having a difficult time locating one. I was hoping to get a used one being that the new OEM are upwards of 2k. This is what it looks like with the bad crack and Im sure this cant be repaired...correct? Im new to this so I apologize for the dumb questions.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Volvo Penta MD7A exhaust Manifold

On the Farm I have welded cast iron many times successfully by using a nickel rod, the cast piece needs to be preheated and cracks stop drilled first.
I’d take it off and take it to a good machine shop, tell them the part is no longer made or I’d buy a new one and ask.

And please post back what you find.

Another option is to go on eBay and set up an automatic search. Every time a MD7 part becomes available I get an email. Recently I saw a whole (running?) parts engine.

Worth a try. The manifold replacement on my Westerbeke 4107 is around $1500. I will have it worked on like I was on a deserted island before spending that kind of money for an old engine part.
