Re: Rocna - Original Galvanized Steel Anchor - 73 Lbs

By Original I expect that you mean made in New Zealand? (Or Canada for that matter)

It is not highlighted that I see in your add.

The New Zealand were made with Bisplate 80 steel.... (and perhaps the Canada made ones too most likely)

Well worth getting over the China versions

(CN = China, CA = Canada)

Re: Rocna - Original Galvanized Steel Anchor - 73 Lbs

Seriously. A Mantus 65lb anchor weighs 55 lbs? How can that be? I have a Mantus "65" which I guess I'll have to put on a scale. Also have an original made in New Zealand Rocna 45 which looks a lot smaller than the Mantus for a 10 lb difference.

Meanwhile, I'm in MA currently and leaving in a week or so to drive to FL. 73lbs is a bit big for my boat (or windlass anyway) but if anyone in north FL or along the I-95 corridor is interested I'll be happy to pick up the anchor and meet you along the way.

When you put your anchor on a scale you will be AMAZED.

Rocna 73lbs actually weighs in at 78lbs on a calibrated scale
They give you more for your money not less.......

That great - The Canada made Rocna were before the shank strength issues that Rocna had when moving production to China.

Someone snatch this anchor up - it is well worth it.

Anchor holding is a function of design as well as weight. For example a 73 pound ROCK has much less holding power than a 73 pound Rocna (or a 65# Mantus for that matter).

The holding power of a 73 pound (real weight) Fortress would far exceed the holding power of a Rocna or Mantus of the same weight Really a function of fluke area.

I would never think that I was being cheated if I were to take a Fortress FX-85 and put it on a scale only to realize that it weighs 47 pounds. No need to think that you are being cheated by Mantus.

To further on that (that holding power and fluke area are more important thatn actual weight) I note that looking at the Rocna and Mantus sizing guides that the Mantus 65 and Rocna 33kg (73#) are slated for pretty much the same boat displacement and length.

As always be aware that I sell Mantus Anchors for a side in the PNW.

Re: Rocna - Original Galvanized Steel Anchor - 73 Lbs

This is not a discussion forum, but a classified forum. Either you are interested or you are not. There is no need to argue the price, value, or characteristics vs other anchors in a classified ad, IMO. There are many other threads here where that can be done. It is just plain poor etiquette. Didn't your Mommas teach you nothing? If you have an issue with the price, PM him. Geesh

A Fortress FX-85 is not sold by WEIGHT, so we can dismiss that one.

A Mantus and Rocna ARE SOLD BY WEIGHT. Which is very important to their design.

boat anchors are a very expensive piece of KIT.

When you buy 73 lbs of GOLD you make sure you get 73 lbs of GOLD.

When you buy a 73 lbs Anchor you want a 73 lb Anchor not a 63 lb anchor.

The Rocna 73 lbs anchor REALLY weights 78 lbs MORE NOT LESS.

YES, CRUISERS DO FEEL CHEATED when they get less than what they paid for.

Re: Rocna - Original Galvanized Steel Anchor - 73 Lbs

I may believe it is as new, but i would not compare it to any brand new anchor.

Btw, imo the 39' to 70' LOA recommendation from rocna is hilarious and unprofessional in many ways, although it may be workable and effective. It sounds bad to me

Not wanting to add to the pile up on in the classifieds, but the anchor you asked about was made in China. Production of Rocnas in NZ and Canada stopped way before 2016. Later, the controversy started about the metal used and Canadian Metals bought the battered company from Rocna. They continued production in China. What he listed was just the location of their office, not production facility.

We used a Chinese produced Rocna for years with no issue or fear. I just bought Chinese chain produced for Canadian Metals (Titan brand) and have complete faith in their oversight.

Matt

I'm even offended by that offer hahaha

This is a Rocna man. The best on the market. Its worth every penny hes asking for.

I'd pay his asking price if I could pick it up locally. I've been looking for this model for awhile.

And if you did your home work you would know that they run about 10 lbs under weight, so for that price you actually get a 55lbs anchor.

I am selling a 73 lbs Rocna that is WELL.... wait for it. 73 lbs

Not sure where you get that Mantus are under weight... my 55 weighs in at right around 55 ( give or take a few ounces). But Mantus have one MAJOR advantage over the Rocna. They don't exhibit the same fail to reset issue in weeds. But still a decent anchor! And that's a good price.
