Hello Capt. Don,

I'm considering upgrading my Raymarine system (same as yours) as well...what system did you purchase?

Thank you,
Joe

Re: Raymarine RL70 chartplotter, ST5000+ Autopilot, ST60 Tridata, ST60 Speed, Compass

Hi Joe,
I upgraded to Raymarine EV-400 autopilot, with parallel SeaTalk and SeaTalk NG networks and Raymarine I70.

This may sound odd, but I wanted to view AIS data at the helm without replacing my RL70C chartplotter and radar. My old RL70C with various CMAP-NT charts is working fine (along with other instruments), but doesn't interface AIS NMEA data. I didn't want to deal with new radar, cabling, etc.

Replaced the ST60 Speed with the I70; replaced ST5000+ control unit with R70. Kept the ST60 wind and ST60 depth at the helm. Both SeaTalk and SeaTalk NG (white spur) cables are routed to the helm station. Connected the Vesper XB-8000 to the STNG network with NMEA 2000-STNG cable. Connected SeaTalk to STNG with the STNG-ST Bridge. In lieu of ITC-5, the depth transducer connected using and older Raymarine converter (want to add ITC-5).

I'm mostly happy with this setup; however, there is a bit of a glitch with the RL70C and STNG network. When selecting Goto Waypoint, depending on which device the STNG network thinks is master, I can't stop or change the Goto -- a few seconds later the old Goto resumes. This seems to be a timing issue on which devices are first powered-up. I can recycle/reset, but a bit of hit-and-miss.

Don

The Tridata is still for sale ?
If the answer is yes, do you have the transducer for it ?
Thanks for your answer
Best Regards
Antonio

Antonio,
Yes, Tri-data is still available; it daisychain connects to the SeaTalk network. No, transucer(s) are not available.
Thanks
Don
