Re: Raymarine Autopilot

Defender has this X-5 on sale now for $1,270, with the newer control head.

Raymarine p70 Wheel Pilot System Pack

FYI, you have to hit "Add to Cart" to see the Sale Price, although I would take the Defender price to West Marine to do a price match so I can deal with a local dealer.

I'll offer you $800 shipped to 92646, for yours since it has the older control head and likely no warranty or at least not without a hassle.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

Yes it does pay to be patience. I agree prices in Mexico are a little higher for boat electronics. We still have the autopilot and will be in Paradise Village until the end of the year.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

The Raymarine Smart Pilot is still in it's box, never been installed (or used for any purpose) and for sale!

Please keep in mind when comparing prices that our unit comes complete with a control head, Zaragosa in PV was selling the same set up for $2400 US! Check with Lopez Marine in La Paz and I am sure that you will be satisfied with our price...

We are in Mazatlan for the week and will be headed to La Paz next week.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

On March 11 I purchased the top of the line X-30 Smartpilot and P-70 control head from Defender for $2499 total - free shipping to San Diego

Few cruisers I knew in Mexico bought major parts locally - we had a friend in the states buy them and then had folks flying down bring the parts along

I once brought $7,500 in parts thru the Cabo airport for a cruiser anchored in La Paz. Two big cardboard boxes and Aduana couldn't care less.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

I purchase the SPX5 with control head P70 from Defender on their four day sale. I everything installed but the control head and will do that today. I have to Raymarine and talk to them about the P70 control head. The manual states that it needs to be positioned 2 feet 6 inches from the compass. I had planned to install it on the pedestal guard but this will be to close a bit more than one foot.
I had an ST 3000 installed and drive motor seized. While installing the SPX5 wheel pilot system I couldn't help thinking how simple is no longer available. Now that this system is installed I kind of wish I went with the CPT wheel pilot system.

Re: Raymarine Autopilot

For everyone comparing prices in US vs Mexico, the original poster is right that there's a premium on everything down here. It's funny because I'm used to bargain prices on used or new gear but buying it from a private party. In the states, that's how it worked.

But down here even slightly used stuff is sold for 75% of it's new price.
