Re: Paul Luke Self Feathering Prop.

From the photo with the tape measure, it looks like a 1" shaft dia. That does seem a bit small for that size prop though.

Re: Paul Luke Self Feathering Prop.

The shaft is still on boat and I can measure with calipers today. I was trying to show the size with a tape measure being that i'm not a sailor i thought that would be enough. The boat was a one off designed by Bill Crealock and my father. My parents are both gone. It has a 60hp Westerbeke engine(6hrs.)driving the prop. I'm in the process of salvaging due to wood decay and lack of funds.

Re: Paul Luke Self Feathering Prop.

Sorry to hear about the boat being parted out. I first viewed your post while on my phone, so the pictures were tiny so the ruler did not show.

Good luck with the sale.

Re: Paul Luke Self Feathering Prop.

Here are measurements that I promised -
Shaft tapers from 1" to 3/4"
Shaft from transmission 1 3/8"
to coupler then reduced to 1"
Total overall length from transmission to prop on shaft end is 12'.

Re: Paul Luke Self Feathering Prop.

Someone should buy this ($2500 new)! I bought one a few years back after looking at all of the "modern" equivalents. (I haven't got the new engine finished yet so can't personally report on performance.) The shaft size seems a bit small for a 60hp engine, but someone with a larger shaft might be able to get the hub machined larger by Luke or a local machine shop - not rocket science.

The great advantage of the Luke is that it has proper curved blades for best performance under power, at a small cost in drag under sail. Most feathering props have flat blades for minimal draq under sail (think race boats) but inferior performance under power. You choose.
