Hey guys! I own a brand new Katadyn PowerSurvivor 160E Desalinator that’s never been opened, and is brand new. Original packaging, etc.

Looking to sell for about 3,750 but I’m open to all offers.

How long since mfg?

Proprietary membranes, 2 vessels right?

How long do the membranes store OK unopened?

Anyone know of a provider that could help convert to standard Dow Filmtec?

The 160 is a single membrane and while Katadyn might tell you that you need to use their proprietary membrane it is not true. The 160 uses a standard 2.5x21 inch membrane. I took mine apart once and to my surprise there was a standard dow membrane in it. Their other models use some weird sizes, but not the 160.

Your only post is regarding selling a high dollar item with no photos. You may want to establish a presence here before trying to sell such a expensive piece of gear.

I’m not a boat guy, by any means, haha. So I’m not too interested in establishing a presence and just trying to get it off my hands for some cash.

I will for sure post photos though. Great advice.

Some great questions, unfortunately I don’t know the answer to those. I just own it haha. I’ve had it for a few years, but it’s been stored in AC, never opened with no seals broken. I’ll post some pictures. Not sure if I should open the box? Suggestions.

I purchased a Little Wonder a few year's ago with SEALED membranes, that were about 5 year's old, called the manufacture to find out if the SEALED membrane's would be good and was told , probably not, tried them, and they did work, but with about 50% reduction in product output, so replaced them.

That's a great data point -- 5 year storage sealed membrane = 50% ouptput. Thank you!!

eBay takes all the buyer's risk away as long as you don't wait too long to test it.

So I guess seller posting a plain ad here and stating "PM me if interested" then sending the eBay link privately, that woyld be within forum rules?

I’m not sure, but I believe this section of the Forum is primarily meant for members to sell no longer wanted items to each other. Over time we get to sort of know each other, and often run into each other out cruising.
While not prohibited, I’d myself be wary of buying from a person who has had no previous presence here, cause as you point out, we can’t provide any kind of protection like EBay can. Of course they are a for profit business and charge too.

I am not disparaging anyone, just I’m Retired and live on a fixed budget and have to be a little more careful than I did when I was working is all.

I have a Katadyn 160, the Dow replacement membrane is the Filmtec SW30- 2521 and you can found one for around $200.00. The Katadyn is a bit noisy but very reliable and energy efficient.
