Well, she's only a 36 and an older one at that. Looks like some of the electronics may need upgrading, cosmetic issues, etc. Not so bad, but definitely cheap considering similar boats on yachtworld. Maybe he just wants a quick sale to get out of his hair.

Its got your name all over it Anjou. Hire someone to do a walk by survey to see if it is worth flying over to have a look. If it looks good to that surveyor fly out and do your own inspection. Then a proper survey. Use that age removing camera of yours to pretty the boat up a bit. Sail her down the coast. Spend the winter in the Carribean and be back in England for summer. All for less than !6k pounds. Good plan?

Aww now Charlie, I bet she still looks that good at 80!
But anyway 36 is a bit small for liveaboard without the beam....then again 11'5"...........

Good Boats, not fancy, not over built, not underbuilt, not fast, not slow...
That thing sounds great... talk about budget cruising...... it's a diesel and got "stuff" too!

Decent boats, although unexciting. They have enough room. I looked at one in Maine.

Rich has a great blog, well worth checking out, and would be a wealth of knowledge to anyone buying that model boat I would think.

If I didn't have my hands full of Oh Joy, I'd jump on it.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that the P365 was available as a sloop, only as a ketch. If this is a sloop that used to be a ketch it's mail is going to be quite small and the balnce will be weird. Secondly, The Westerbeke that is in there no longer has parts available. I had the same engine in my 1975 P39 and ended up repowering.
ps: you will also probably need to replace or rebuild the Walters V-drive.

pps: According to the Pearson Info website, there were no sloops.

There were sloops, one is moored across from me in the marina. These are a really spacious 36' boat with a separate shower room in the head. Would make a good live aboard for a couple. Not great sailors with the shallow draft but no one with any brains goes to weather.

First time I have really thought about this boat. I am very curious about why the designer chose to have a very large cockpit, at the expense of a quarterberth.

Aw third day you are cruel! I've been looking hard at The 365 Ketches for quite a while now because they are rated for fantastic value (like this one) and is a fully blue water capable boat. If this were a year from now your boat would be sold already. I'd love to sail it from the sea of Cortez down to southern Mexico where my parents have some property on the water and moor it. I've read your blog in its entirety and most of your posts on the pearson forum.

Hell 16k I could sell my truck and buy it, but then I wouldn't have a truck! You really are cruel!

Most sailing reports I have seen say good things, and most of those I talk to with a ketch rig seem to love it.

As far as sloop etc, in my research I've found the Pearson 365 was made in a Sloop, Cutter, Ketch, and Pilothouse version! Quite a bit of diversity.

The Cutter version is actually fairly sought after because it has a deeper keel, larger skeg hung rudder, taller mast, and the mast is stepped further aft due to the cutter rig of course.

The sloop just has a taller mast and longer boom to move the mizzen sail area into the main.

The pilothouse actually ditched the v-drive, moving the engine to a more central location and added fuel capacity, making it a bit more of a motorsailor.

The cutter is rumored to be the best sailor but I like the Ketch for the looks and some of the advantages the mizzen gives you (good spot to mount stuff, keeps head to wind at anchor, drop the main and sail only mizzen/jib for an easy large reef, etc)

Anyways, from what I can tell, great boat with good reviews. Bill Shaw (the designer) said he basically built the boat to be everything he wanted in a cruising boat, and was basically designed for himself/family. I hope someone buys this boat (and gives it to me, come on your rich guys lurking, I know you're here! ).

Good luck!

I sailed a P-365 for about three years and loved it! She is beamy and very heavy, haul out was always fun. The boat is very spacious and the ketch setup made a smooth sailing motion. Nice setup for a live-aboard. Anjou, check it out!

Good deals go fast!

May not be a catch I would sugest moving forward as it is not always the destination but the journey we live for! Once there you may see something else. One never know were one ends up, but you have to make move to get someplace. It will be better than playing on the computer even if the boat does not work out. Make an adventure out of everything you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
